What we do
Photograph of a child at one of our sessions in Stratford stroking a "moose"Bag Books is a UK-wide charity providing tactile and multi-sensory stories to people with learning disabilities.

Multi-sensory stories can be enjoyed without being understood. Our primary audience is children and adults who are living with severe or profound learning disabilities. For children, that usually means a developmental age of below 18 months (so their brain works like that of a child of 18 months or younger), but some teenagers and adults have function equivalent to 6 years. Some have autism; many have language delay; and most also have severe physical disabilities, such as cerebral palsy. Compared to a mainstream child, their life experiences can sometimes be very limited. Some have lived with their disabilities from birth; others have had an injury or illness (e.g. meningitis), which caused brain damage.

Multi-sensory stories are stimulating, engaging and totally interactive; based on the latest academic research and over 30 years' experience. We believe that everyone with profound learning disabilities deserves a chance to reach his or her own potential; we are thrilled to assist so many of them in their journey.
